Thavoron – “Forever Young” [Song Review]
Thavoron’s smouldering, stylish song “Forever Young” drips with the enthralling sensation of unfettered romantic love.
Cambodian American artist Thavoron (Tav-er-on) returns with his new single “Forever Young,” an ode to queer love, firsts, and the enigma of transient moments that feel eternal.
Thavoron shares:
“‘Forever Young’ came from a place in my heart that deeply wanted to immortalize the feeling of young, queer love. I think this song was an opportunity to reveal my inner naiveté, a mindset revolving around the idea that ignorance is bliss.”
The song proved to be difficult to finish. According to Thavoron, after recording the guitar in 2021 at his parents’ house, the lyrics and melodies wouldn’t come together. When he finally let the song unfold on its own, rather than pushing it in a direction it didn’t want to go, “Forever Young” came together.
However, just as Thavoron completed the verse, his laptop died. He lost all the files on his computer including the demo. So he had to write it again.
“Forever Young” features a floating, pensive intro topped by Thavoron’s silky tones, imbuing the lyrics with suggestions of innocent immortality and the feeling of undying love unique to youth. As the rhythm takes hold, building slowly, the harmonics solidify into dramatic surfaces. All the elements coalesce into a shimmering, galloping dream-pop, dance-like tune.
The Seattle artist’s smouldering, stylish song “Forever Young” drips with the enthralling sensation of unfettered romantic love.
