Cole DeGenova Premieres His Hyped-Up “Dopamine” Single [Bryan Ford Remix]

After being a number-one asset for other artists, it’s time for Cole DeGenova to step out into the spotlight. Get a load of his new single “Dopamine” today, which is a remix of the title track to the songwriter’s 2021 EP. The man behind this remix is Bryan Ford who also goes by the name Tusk57.

Ford is a friend of DeGenova’s and also the co-founder of 600 Block Records which DeGenova is signed to. The former is an experienced mixer and remixer, doing the same for artists like Killah Priest and Pugs Atomz. Ford provides a whole new interpretation of “Dopamine,” an upbeat, more danceable version of the track. You’ll be able to find the remix on the re-release of the Dopamine EP, which will also include bonus tracks.

Explaining the background behind the song, DeGenova states:

“The song ‘Dopamine’ is all about the quick, superficial pleasures we get from things like Netflix and social media, when what we really need/want is real human connection. From there, the songs get a little darker, almost eerie. It’s a funky psycho-sexual-spiritual trip through the inner quarantined mind back in 2020.”

Regarding his approach to remixing the track, Ford offers:

“‘Dopamine’ hooked me instantly when I first heard it. But I wondered how the song would sound with a quicker tempo and break-beat type drums, and also a more active bassline to lead things along. I started from that perspective and began to play around with various beats and sounds until it felt right and natural. And it had to do justice to the original song, of course.”

As a songwriter, DeGenova is a fountain of ideas and diversity. Which is probably why other artists have such a curiosity in him. He has been a live and touring member for a wide assortment of artists. The list includes Daniel Villarreal (Dos Santos, International Anthem), Neal Francis, Gallant, and more. He’s also held in very high regard as a session musician.

But there’s so much more to DeGenova as an artist. He’s able to bring together alt-pop, neo soul, and R&B and fit it into one coherent whole. He released his last album Really Human in 2020 before the lockdowns began. He used the time that followed wisely to finetune and develop his beatmaking and production abilities. DeGenova has got another EP coming down the pipeline which will feature more collaborations. He’s taking this time to focus on his own artistry and he’s showing why he’s such a valued producer and songwriter.
