Jeremy Facknitz Premieres His Delectable New Single “Breakfast”
Singer-songwriter Jeremy Facknitz is at his storytelling best with the premiere of his timeless new single “Breakfast.”
Jeremy Facknitz is a unique artist in many ways, but perhaps the most notable is his disregard for musical trends and movements. Today, he unveils his new single “Breakfast,” a song that could find a comfortable place in any era (check out our premiere of his “There’s No Going Home Again” single last year). It’s a well-composed song, brimming with warmth and passion for songwriting and storytelling.
Facknitz has a deliberate and delicate approach as he politely wonders if you might consider having breakfast with him. You can hear that subtle, coffee shop singer-songwriter approach to songwriting that Facknitz has dedicated his career to. It’s indicative of one of his true strengths as a songwriter, someone who can connect with any audience. There’s no scene synonymous with Facknitz’s music. It could be enjoyed just as thoroughly by anyone of any age.
Discussing the song, its background, and its intentions, Facknitz states:
“‘Breakfast’ has received a lot of attention at my live performances all over the U.S. since I wrote it under the spell of a COVID fever in August of 2023. It’s a storyteller, contemporary folk song in the style of Harry Chapin, or Luke Combs. It attempts to redefine romantic love. It’s about human-connection; how our ‘angels’ appear everywhere in everyday life, and how we ourselves might be an ‘angel’ as well. We’re all in this together, and if a romance, friendship, or even an open and vulnerable conversation with a stranger only lasts the duration of a meal, the brevity doesn’t make it any less meaningful.”
As an artist, Facknitz has demonstrated great versatility in his 20-year career. He commonly performs with his six-piece band but is just as comfortable with an acoustic guitar and a microphone. He released his last full-length, Smilin’ at the Future, last year. His sixth solo album is a grouping of songs that could have been recorded at any time in the last 50 or so years and still sounded relevant. It was an album filled with emotion, some moments cheerful, others more pessimistic. Facknitz really excels as a lyricist, with quips, assertions, and other assorted commentary laden throughout.
For the first 15 years of his career, Facknitz primarily made a living performing at bars, coffee shops, and corporate events. Although he enjoyed it, it wasn’t the easiest way of making people fans of your music. After a scary bout with viral meningitis, he decided it was time for a change. He stopped performing in bars and began focusing on house concerts and clubs, and finding spaces with his audiences present. It’s worked out well, as Facknitz has become a touring staple of the American Midwest, where you can find him sharing his stories and musings on life and living.
