Tiny Habits Put on Magical Tour Opener at Leeds Wardrobe [Photos]

Boston, USA trio Tiny Habits are a few days short of dropping their highly-anticipated debut album, All For Something, when they kick off this UK headline run at a packed and intimate Wardrobe in Leeds.

Joining the band on the run are New York acoustic folk outfit Shallow Alcove who are already midway through their set when I arrive at this wonderfully intimate venue in the centre of Leeds. “We’re so happy to be here,” they announce, “we’re even happy to drive on the other side of the road for you.”

A hushed air falls on the packed room as the New York group performs their short but utterly delightful set. In the nicest way possible, if you’re ever struggling to fall asleep, then Shallow Alcove would be the perfect cure. Their songs are gentle, soothing and dreamy and would guarantee you could slip into the calmest sleep you’ll ever have. “They’re fantastic, aren’t they?” someone says to me as the New Yorkers end their set. Yes, they very much are.

It’s easy to see why audiences all over the world are falling under the spell of the collective. To put it simply, the three-piece comprised of Maya Rae, Cinya Khan, and Judah Mayowa are truly magical.

Having already supported Noah Kahan on a recent arena tour, the three-piece has picked up fans like Elton John along the way. While a little more upbeat than their perfect support choice, Tiny Habits are nonetheless hypnotic. Kicking off their lengthy set with “circling,” “one more,” and “small enough,” the connection with each other both musically and emotionally is plain for all to see.

Taking it in turns to, figuratively speaking, take centre stage, each of the three musicians brings their style and personality to the group. At the same time, their choice of covers, which includes the Billie Eilish hit “What Was I Made For?” nestles perfectly alongside the likes of “malleable,” as the rising Boston outfit kicks off their UK headline run in the most magical way possible.
