Graciela Serena Premieres Her Resilient Album ‘Fighting With Me And You’
Graciela Serena is a fighter. Today she emerges with the debut of her new record ‘Fighting With Me and You,’ eight tracks that nicely balance the space of arena rock with the colourful side of pop music.
It may seem corny or cliched to observe Graciela Serena and call her a “fighter,” but there really is no other way of accurately representing this young artist. She is emerging today with the debut of her new record Fighting With Me and You, eight tracks that nicely balance the space of arena rock with the colourful side of pop music.
Growing up in Texas, the singer-songwriter began writing songs as a youngster, as music became her comfort from the stress and commotion around her. As life’s challenges began to confront her, she began to deal with some depression and fell into a dysfunctional web of alcoholism. Music became a lifeline of sorts from these realities, and it’s all guided her to this moment, releasing her best work so far as a musician.
Discussing her struggles and what inspired her to write this album, Serena shares the following:
“I’m not going to lie… it hasn’t all been easy.
“Just because you move away from your past, it doesn’t mean that you don’t have the same triggers, the same core wounds, and the same work that this life has given you. I honestly wouldn’t have it any other way. I can say with full transparency that I have cried conscious tears for the first time in years. No alcohol to back them up. Just me and what I feel. I have faced things that I didn’t even know were there. I am human.
“Something that I realized on this journey is that I have more about myself to discover. That’s ok with me! It’s not a race. I’m never going to be ‘perfect.’ I love growing, I love learning about the things I want to work on. Some people may call them flaws, but I call them challenges; they are a part of me. I will not shun them, I will refine them.
“My light is bringing my shadow forward… to crack open for you all to see… we all have one. Instead of shame, I carry love. I embrace. I dance. I write. I sing. I make an album. This album.
“I made this album so that you, the listener, might feel a little less alone. So that maybe it sparks a flame inside, inspires you fight for yourself when you think your voice doesn’t matter. I hope it can help you forgive the person you see in the mirror every day. Embrace every facet of who are and what that means to YOU. To bring forward the FIGHT, which is to do it over and over again… till death do you part.”
The ability to reach others and connect with them through music keeps Serena strong and motivated to move forward. Each song stands on its own two feet, but broadly speaking, the album represents the battles that we all encounter as we navigate through life. The songs were written in Austin, Texas, with an impressive lineup of performers, including guitarist Duane Simpson, keyboardist Tommy Knoles, drummer Tony Creasman, and producer and bassist Michael Hynes joining her.
Fighting With Me and You is exciting, not just for its quality of songs but also for what it represents in terms of artist potential. Serena taps into some intense emotions, like pain, hope, compassion, and tough love, and it shows off an artist wise beyond her years. She’s committed to continuing to bring the “fight,” no matter what the circumstances or how bad the odds.
