The Greek philosopher Heraclitus said, “Change is the only constant in life.” New York City-based singer-songwriter and producer Future Someone’s recently released track, “I Hope You Find Whatever You Are Looking For,” narrows the aphorism to a subjective, intimate level.

Future Someone, aka Kyle Walters, explains, “This project represents the continual change of self throughout life. We’re more or less the same person on the surface, but on the inside, in order to grow, you need to leave behind the pieces that no longer serve you.”

Prior to going solo, Walters played with bands like Ionia and Those Mockingbirds, bands pumping out heavy layers of guitar-driven music. On his new project, Walters goes in a different direction, shifting from muscular guitars to polychromatic keyboards, precise drums, and poignant pop lyricism.

As Future Someone, Walters’ sound blends shades of new wave, indie-pop, indie-rock, and dream-pop into shimmering sonic creations.

“I Hope You Find Whatever You Are Looking For” opens on lush, swirling washes of synths atop tight, extended percussion. Soft, glowing vocal harmonies impart lustrous surfaces as Future Someone’s voice imbues the lyrics with warm, dreamy tones. Ebbing and rising, the harmonics effervesce on gliding textures.

“One day you’ll know when I said what I mean / You’re not what I want / You’re not what I need / (I hope you find whatever you are looking for).”
