The Magician & The Aston Shuffle – “Differences” [Song Review]
Riding a low-slung pushing beat, The Magician and The Aston Shuffle’s single, “Differences” (Potion Records/Sony Music), blends modern dance savours with touches of yummy vintage aspects.
Heavyweight house music producer The Magician teams up with Australian producer and DJ The Aston Shuffle on their new single, “Differences,” the first collaboration between the two producers.
The Magician explains, “We have been talking about a collaboration for a long time. We love each other’s work, and Aston Shuffle was the first signature on my label Potion Records. We shared some demo ideas and decided to choose to work on this beautiful little melody which took us back to childhood memories! We arranged our beat/bass/chords/skills to the melody and then in a studio in Brooklyn we recorded the singer Remy, who added his own vibe to it.”
The Aston Shuffle adds, “I’ve released a lot of music on Potion over the years, as well as played a lot of shows with The Magician in the US and Europe. We always spoke about how we’d love to work on something together, so I’m super happy we finally found the time to do it!”
With hundreds of millions of streams, The Magician is well-known for his remix of Lykke Li’s “I Follow Rivers,” as well as his performances at Coachella, Primavera Sound Festival, Hideout Croatia, EDC Las Vegas, and Tomorrowland.
On his part, The Aston Shuffle, aka Vance Musgrove, has amassed more than 150 million streams, hosted triple j’s Friday Night Shuffle, hit number one on Beatport, and remixed celebrated dance music artists.
“Differences” opens with light, eddying tones, followed by the entry of a potent, mid-tempo rhythm as the gleaming topline streams with luminous colours. Remy’s smooth, evocative vocals imbue the lyrics with warm, appealing timbres.
