Montréal Rapper Izzy-S Drops “Mérité” Single with Shreez

Izzy-S, one of Montréal’s most renowned rappers, begins the new year with a gift for his fans, sharing his latest single, “Mérité,” with frequent collaborator Shreez via Universal Music Canada/Maison Barclay Canada. The two rappers trade verses about how they earned everything they have, maintaining that their rise to the top has not always been easy.
Beginning the song with a declaration that he will never accept the minimum, Izzy states his value of being able to provide for his family before singing that he receives a lot of love from the streets because “hustlers can recognize themselves in his albums.” He continues in the melodic chorus, “Sometimes you’re down, sometimes you’re up/The fast life is too fast/We must do well for the family/The famine is over/Everything I have, I earned it.”
The single, produced by Its Hypnotic (Lil Durk, Killy, SCH) and Knxn Beats (Elh Kmer), comes following a strong output from Izzy-S last year, including stand-out singles “Allo c’est qui?,” “Jacuzzi,” “Mon Canon,” and “Semelles Rouges.” “Mérité” with Shreez continues a consistent outpouring of quality music from the St-Michel native, who made career leaps in 2022 by performing at the inaugural Legacy Awards, the first major Canadian award show to celebrate and showcase Black Canadian talent.
“Mérité” arrives alongside a music video shot and chopped by Carlos Guerra, which shows Izzy-S spending thousands on diamond-clad glasses, custom Cake Boys-branded chains, and more at the jewelry store. Izzy and Shreez get fresh at the barbershop, enjoy a luxurious meal, and parade around in the snow, singing lyrics from the new single.
