Nashville-based singer-songwriter Soccer Mommy, a.k.a Sophia Allison off of the stage, is amidst a lengthy run across the United States humorously entitled “Touring, Forever,” in support of her latest release Sometimes, Forever, which dropped this past June. The tour sees a rotating cast of opening acts—we were fortunate to catch her final show with opener Lightning Bug at Boston’s House of Blues on Sunday, November 6th!

Despite it being a Sunday evening, fans packed the first floor, and much of the balcony at the House of Blues as opener Lightning Bug kicked into a fun if also more subdued set with “The Return,” from the band’s 2021 release, A Color of the Sky. Vocalist Audrey Kang’s rich yet ethereal vocals were mesmerizing at times, and the band’s set the perfect apéritif before the headlining set to come.

After a bit of a wait, Soccer Mommy emerged, backlit by projected images and went straight into the fan-favorite track, “Bones,” off her latest album. It was at this moment that it became apparent that the whole night would be one great big sing-along/dance-along. Allison and her cohorts continued with another new one, “With U,” and mega-hit from her 2020 record Color Theory, “Circle the Drain.”

Soccer Mommy absolutely delivers the exact sound you’d hear on their albums live, if not in a better form. Allison’s live vocals are just spot-on in the best way—that lovely breathy quality to her singing voice that is so recognizably hers rang out loud and clear as she continued with “Shotgun” and “Crawling In My Skin,” her voice almost haunting for the chorus in the latter song. For long-time fans, this tour’s setlist has so much to love—the remainder of the night’s highlights included older tracks “Scorpio Rising,” “Still Clean,” and encore-closer “Your Dog.” For fans of the newer material, it was really neat to hear Allison pull off some of the darker tracks on Sometimes, Forever, including “Unholy Affliction” and “Darkness Forever.”

If you haven’t had the chance to catch Soccer Mommy on this run yet, you’re in luck! Their tour is set to resume shortly with Canadian singer-songwriter Helena Deland as support for a couple of weeks, swapping with Canadian indie rock act Tops roughly halfway through for the final stretch.
