A Day To Remember (w/ The Used) Get Wild at The Zoo Amphitheatre in Oklahoma City [Photos]
A Day To Remember hit The Zoo Amphitheatre in Oklahoma City with The Used on October 4th, and everything got totally wild.
It’s been 13 or 14 years (WOW!) since I’ve last seen A Day To Remember (ADTR) live, and a lot of things have changed in the music scene, but one thing that hasn’t is just how great they are live. I remember seeing them at a small club in Claremore, Oklahoma, called King of Clubs, and distinctly recall just how fun and great they were. If memory serves me correctly, I recall someone coming out in a costume during on their songs, which clearly made an imprint in my mind. It was, of course, a crazy-packed crowd because this was just as they were blowing up and getting talked about heavily in the music world.
Well, it’s been 13 or 14 years since then, and instead of seeing them in a small club, I’m seeing them at the 2nd largest music venue in Oklahoma City. Instead of being small fries, they are now basically household names for all everyone that grew up on music starting in 2007, so the question is, will they still have heart (pun 100% definitely intended)?
Before we get to that, let’s look at who played before them.
Sadly, I was coming from Tulsa, and it’s about an hour and 45-minute drive to get to the venue, so I missed the two bands who played, which were Magnolia Park and Movements, but I was able to catch the last opening band, The Used.
I love The Used, and I’ve loved them since hearing their song “Taste of Ink” and driving around Tulsa with one of my first crushes, Jenz. Seeing them and getting the opportunity to photograph them was a huge honor. They definitely brought the energy as if they were the headliner, which was a delight to witness.
They did this hilarious bit where instead of clapping, they wanted the audience to boo, which definitely aligns with their self-deprecating sense of humor. The lead singer also brought on two different kids at two different times to come up on stage during songs, which I thought was super cool, and would definitely make a lasting impact on them.
Finally, it was time for ADTR to hit the stage, and they started the show off with a bang.
They had a ginormous sheet with “ADTR” written on the front of it hanging in front of the stage. That dropped whenever they kicked the night off with their fantastic song “The Downfall of Us All.” From there on, it was like the train didn’t ever slow down. Some of the highlights from the night were confetti cannons going off and a guy dressed as Mario shooting shirts from t-shirt cannons. It was truly like they never lost what made them ADTR, which I love seeing.
They also played a selection of their songs that spanned their career. I don’t remember the last time I was in a mosh pit or saw hardcore dancing live in person. It certainly felt like I was living out my scene years, which I loved revisiting.
If you love hardcore music or want to relive your scene years, then I definitely recommend checking out A Day To Remember next time they come through your neck of the woods. You won’t be disappointed!
