Miss May I and The Curse of Existence Tour sell out The Palladium Upstairs! There is no greater feeling than seeing the bands you love sell out your favourite venues. Even though they played the smaller stage, this show was no exception as fans waited for the opening band to start.
At 7 sharp, French metalcore group LANDMVRKS opened up the pit. They started with their number one song, “Lost in a Wave,” and played other songs like “Rainfall,” “Blistering,” my favourite, “Death,” “Say No Word,” and “Self Made Black Hole.” Once they ended, the crowd chanted “ENCORE, ENCORE!” to the shocked faces of the members of LANDMVRKS. If only more time were allowed. It was cool to be able to shoot a show off their first tour in the States, and I hope the group comes back soon. They absolutely killed their set!
Next was Kingdom of Giants, who played seven songs. They opened with “Two Suns” and ended with “Wayfinder.” The crowd moshed and crowd surfed, where one man stage-dived back into the crowd and kicked my camera. It almost stopped working, and I had a small panic attack. I might not do small stage shows after that night. Kingdom of Giants had a great set, and I was bummed when they ended.
New England’s own metalcore band Currents, who hail from Connecticut, played after the fifteen-minute stage swap. The crowd went crazy as everyone took to the stage and vocalist Brian Wille walked on. “Into Despair” was their first song, and then they went straight to their new single, “The Death We Seek.” Afterwards, Currents played songs from their last two albums, The Way it Ends and The Place I Feel Safest. The crowd was singing and screaming along with Brian during the whole set, myself included! The band ended with their song “Monster.”
Miss May I finally took the stage and started us off with their song “Unconquered.” They mixed the setlist with old and new songs. Their last track was “Earth Shaker,” and they came back for an encore of two songs, “Shadows Inside” and “Forgive and Forget.” Their performance was great, but boy, was I tired and ready to go home by the end of the night! I also really enjoyed their set lighting for some of the photos.
The Curse of Existence tour is ending this week. I enjoyed every band that played that night on this tour, and I hope they all get to come back soon. If you can see any of these bands, do it!
