Toronto Rockers Oakrest Premiere Their Bright, Warm Album ‘Summer Sun’
Upbeat, light-hearted, and uplifting… some music just sounds like the summer. Enjoy the album premiere of Toronto band Oakrest’s new full-length, aptly titled ‘Summer Sun.’
Some music just sounds like the summer. It exudes a pleasant feeling, it’s emotive, and it makes you feel good. You can check all of those boxes with Oakrest and their brand new full-length, aptly titled Summer Sun. Originally from the small town of Keswick, Ontario, and now based in nearby Toronto, the quartet is set to formally release Summer Sun this Friday, July 8th—ten new power pop anthems delivered in the vein of 2000s pop-punk, and today’s disciples of that movement.
This is the group’s debut full-length and it marks a real progression for the band since the days when they were primarily focused on a heavy guitar and distortion-based sound. They refined their approach as they recorded Summer Sun, with their sound now more upbeat, light-hearted, and uplifting.
Commenting on the album, vocalist Jacob Szabo shares with us the following:
“Summer Sun is going to hopefully open up a bunch of doors for Oakrest. We’ve got an exciting story to tell with this record, we’ve got our characters, and songs to match the vibe of any scenario in a typical relationship. Starting with a crush, or ending with burning bridges, this record will truly take you through all the stages of a typical relationship. This record means absolutely everything to me. We put everything on the line with this record, taking risks, spending the most money we have ever spent on an album, in hopes to one day, be able to do this full time.”
With Szabo as the frontman, he is backed up by Michael Van on lead guitar, Jacob Graves on rhythm guitar, and Chris Zoubaniotis on drums. Their approach to their craft is fairly traditional, with songs about heartache, aloneness, isolation, relationships, and other topics in that ballpark. As previously stated though, Summer Sun is no downer, as it will primarily make you feel good, and you may even feel the urge to reminisce about the classic days of pop punk.
If it’s a laid-back, festive good time you’re looking for, well, you’ve arrived at the right place.
