Dorothy’s “Gifts from The Holy Ghost Tour” brought So-Cal rock to Chicago’s House of Blues on Saturday night, and what a night it was!

Opening band Classless Act, from Los Angeles, CA, transported fans to the ’70s and ’80s with their arrangements, vocals, and all-around performance reminiscent of the era’s greatest rock bands like Aerosmith and Metallica. Classless Act can hold their own and have been shooting to stardom since they released their debut single “Give It To Me” in the summer of 2021.

Their setlist was short but full of unreleased tracks that fans anticipate will be on their debut album later this year. The band – consisting of Derek Day (vocals), Dane Pieper (guitar), Griffin Tucker (guitar), Franco Gravante (bass), and Chuck McKissock (drums) treated fans to released tracks “This If for You” and “Give It To Me” before teasing them with unreleased tunes “All That We Are,” “Cry,” “I’m The Storm,” and “Classless Act.”

The night of Southern California rock continued with Orange County, CA-based band Joyous Wolf. Consisting of Nick Reese (vocals), Blake Allard (guitar), Greg Braccio (bass), and Robert Sodaro (drums), Joyous Wolf has made a name for themselves in the rock world since 2019 – without an album to their name. Full of non-stop energy, Reese brought his Steven Tyler-esque moves to their performance, with splits, one-handed cartwheels, and other acrobatic dance moves as the band also treated fans to many unreleased tracks. Opening with “Quiet Heart” off their 2019 EP Place In Time, Joyous Wolf wasted no time in playing three unreleased tunes – “Get Myself Right,” “In Your Shadow,” and “Storm.” Followed by their newest single “Fearless,” as well as “Place in Time” and “Mother Rebel” from their 2019 release.

Headliner Dorothy, the self-titled rock band of Dorothy Martin (vocals), Devon Pangle (guitar), Eli Wulfmeier (guitar), Eliot Lorango (bass), and Jason Ganberg (drums) from Los Angeles, CA, kicked the night into high gear with a setlist consisting of tracks since their 2016 debut album Rockisdead. Starting their show with the 2017 single “Down To The Bottom,” Martin took the stage as only a badass female vocalist could – dressed to kill and command the stage.

Dorothy’s third album, Gifts from the Holy Ghost, dropped a few weeks ago in April 2022, and the band played surprisingly few songs from the album, instead, focusing on a plethora of tunes from their first and second albums. The band followed their opening song with 2016’s “Gun In My Hand,” 2018’s “Ain’t Our Time to Die,” and 2021’s “What’s Coming To Me” before playing a haunting cover of Eurythmics “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This).” Following up the ghostly tune were two songs off their 2022 album – “Rest In Peace” and “A Beautiful Life.”

Choosing to finish with a mix of old tracks including “Medicine Man,” “Raise Hell,” “Flawless,” and “Freedom,” Dorothy concluded their set with “Dark Nights” before thanking their fans, blowing kisses, and leaving fans wanting more.
