Bastille Give Fans a Euphoric Experience at the Birmingham O2 Academy [Photos]
London electro-pop favourites Bastille give fans a euphoric night in Birmingham. Check out Carla’s gallery from the second night here.
Fresh from a run of intimate shows earlier this Spring, London electro-pop band Bastille hit the road for a full UK headline tour supporting their new album, Give Me The Future, released earlier this year. On the second of a two-night stint at the O2 Academy in Birmingham, our photographer Carla Mundy brought back this awesome gallery from their headline set and support acts Dylan and The Native.
Playing a massive twenty-two song set to a packed house, things kicked off with “Stay Awake,” the first of eight tracks aired from the hit album with highlights from the rest, including “Distorted Light Beam,” “Back To The Future,” and “No Bad Days.”
For the rest of the set, the band delved into a back catalogue, making them one of the most popular bands on the UK circuit. Tracks like “Pompeii” and “Of The Night” both take fans back nearly nine years and are as ecstatically received by this vocal and hardcore fanbase as new cuts like “Plug In.”
Alongside a back catalogue second to none, Bastille makes sure their live experience is a visual treat. Video screens flash up images throughout the night making sure that while there are plenty of mobile phones light up the room filming snippets of the set, all attention is firmly on charismatic frontman Dan Smith and his bandmates.
Encore time sees Dan take to the crowd during “Happier” with the group wrapping up the second date in Birmingham with euphoric renditions of “Hope For The Future” and “Shut Off The Lights,” one last offering from their Give Me The Future album, a future that is retina-burningly bright on this evidence.
