UK rockers Inglorious give us a track-by-track rundown on the choices for their banging new covers album ‘Heroine.’

From Miley Cyrus to Whitney Houston, UK hard rockers Inglorious have tackled some iconic rock classics on their new covers album, Heroine, out on September 10th, 2021 through Frontiers Music.

With a full UK headline tour kicking off this week, we hope that their set will include at least one or two of these absolute bangers and, ahead of the tour and the album release, we spoke to the band to find out why they had picked this particular collection of classics.

1. “Midnight Sky” – Miley Cyrus

“Miley has tons of great songs but is clearly a rocker to the core. We are all about the female empowerment in this modern classic and this has one of those choruses you can’t help singing along to.”

2. “Barracuda” – Heart

Ann Wilson is THE goddess of rock vocals and we covered this magical tune from ’77 to remind everyone just how much Heart rock.”

3. “I’m With You” – Avril Lavigne

“A song and artist that helped many people our age at a time when we needed it the most…PUBERTY! All the emotions and school crushes. This song reminds me of High School Prom.”

4. “Bring Me To Life” – Evanesence

“The perfect song. It has everything and is a masterpiece in songwriting and singing from one of the greats, Amy Lee. EVERY cool kid in school had this album. Honoured to have Yngwie, Journey, TSO vocalist Jeff Scott Soto on it too.”

5. “Queen Of The Night” – Whitney Houston

“Sassiest song ever? Really challenging vocally, especially for a dude. She really is the best female vocalist of all time and this song naturally lent itself to the heavier production. The riffs were there!”

6. “Nutbush City Limits” – Tina Turner

“You can’t do an album of women without Tina. We chose this semi-autobiographical song as we knew it would groove like a train and give us an excuse to have real horns on an album!”

7. “Fighter” – Christina Aguilera

“The title alone is enough of a reason to cover this banger. The original rocks and Christina Aguilera’s fierce vocal makes the vicious lyrics even more pointed. I wouldn’t wanna be the guy she is singing about.”

8. “I Hate Myself For Loving You” – Joan Jett and the Blackhearts

“Such a sexy song! We had to do a Joan Jett and the Blackhearts song. This is one of those tunes that makes you wanna move ya feet and kick some ass. Like all of Joan’s songs!”

9. “I Am The Fire” – Halestorm

Lzzy Hale is the most incredible singer. It was so hard to pick just one Halestorm song. “I Am The Fire” has a great meaning and something I think we all need to tell ourselves “every obstacle I face, the only person standing in my way is ME!”.”

10. “Time After Time” – Cyndi Lauper

“Out of Cyndi’s vast catalogue, this one really speaks to me. Its beautiful melody and comforting lyrics are all we really want to hear from another human being. “If you fall I will catch you, I will be waiting”.”

11. “Uninvited” – Alanis Morissette

“This song inspired the entire album concept. Alanis Morissette is iconic and this song has an almost Zeppelin vibe to it. It’s hypnotic and so haunting, unsettling even. Only a true genius can make you feel this way through music and lyrics. We had to cover it.”

I have an unhealthy obsession with bad horror movies, the song Wanted Dead Or Alive and crap British game shows. I do this not because of the sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll lifestyle it affords me but more because it gives me an excuse to listen to bands that sound like hippos mating.
