Now that’s a way to make a reentrance! Accentuated with a very loud “Bang,” Grande Royale have returned with their rowdy, and may we say very humourous, new music video, the first single off their latest record, Carry On. Scheduled for release on March 26th through The Sign Records, “Bang” is a full-on rocker and overflowing with positivity at a time when that’s just what the doctor ordered! The song is indicative of the high-energy approach you’ll hear throughout Carry On, a contrast to the group’s last album, Take It Easy, which strayed into more experimental territory in terms of instrumentation and song structure.
Carry On is something of a return to the group’s earlier focus, dirty garage rock which is what this quartet truly excels at. Recorded and produced entirely by the band members themselves, Carry On features eleven high octane tracks with the production kept simple and the approach firmly settled on writing catchy songs inspired by the spirit of ‘90s rock. One of the true defining characteristics of Carry On is singer Gustav Wremer’s vocals which are more gritty and filled with more attitude than ever before.
Discussing the song and the video, the band said, “‘Bang’ was one of the first songs we wrote for our upcoming album Carry On. We got the idea for the title when we were touring the Netherlands with The Dirty Denims. They had a song called ‘Back With a Bang.’ We wanted a feel-good video to accompany the track. Kruthus Produktion filmed and produced the music video for ‘Bang,’ and in the video, you can see the staff at Resturang Sjön in our hometown Jönköping ‘choiring’ to the track.”
What’s become customary for the Swedish rockers through their time in the spotlight is the collaborations they’ve done with prominent fixtures of their local music scene. Previous to Carry On, they have worked with the well respected Nicke Andersson (The Hellacopters, Imperial State Electric) and Ola Ersfjord (Dead Lord, Honeymoon Disease, Lucifer). This time around, Dregen, guitarist extraordinaire for The Hellacopters and Backyard Babies provided guest vocals for the song “Just as Bad as You.”
There are very few bands who have been as productive as Grande Royale since their inception. When Carry On is released, it will mark the band’s fifth album in a span of only seven years since their debut Cygne Noir was released in 2014. While it may be unfortunate that they can’t be out on tour in support of Carry On, you can rest assured that these boys are raring to go when they’re given the go-ahead. In the meantime, you can expect them to be rocking it out in the garage, taking the genre to a level where it’s never been before.
