These People – “Mind Reading” [Free Song Download]

The solo project of producer and songwriter TJ Penzone, These People is a dreamy, genre-blending, psych-rock outfit with a sound reminiscent of The Shins or Flaming Lips. The Long Beach, New York group is fleshed out by some sibling help from Rick Penzone with production, artwork, and additional instrumentation, and the live-show experience of These People is supplemented by a rotating cast of musicians. With a new single, “Mind Reading,” recently released on May 29 via Cell Division, These People are now offering the dazzling tune as a free download.
The three-minute track is a hazy psychedelic experience, driven by a stuttering, muted drum beat and a rich cacophony of guitars and synths. A shimmering, expressive tune, “Mind Reading” challenges the familiarity of psych-rock while exploring a wilder realm of experimentation. On the song, TJ says, “‘Mind Reading’ is about miscommunication, and how convenient it would be to have that ability and minimize conflict.”
Check out “Mind Reading” and keep an ear out for a new EP from These People due out this fall on Cell Division/Green Witch Recordings.
