Ruff Majik Signs to South Africa-Based Just Music’s New Imprint Mongrel Records

Independent South African record label, Just Music has unveiled a new imprint focused on all things heavy rock and metal called Mongrel Records. Focusing on the best of South Africa’s heavy music scene, the label’s inaugural signing is the popular psychedelic stoner riff trio, Ruff Majik. The Pretoria-based group continues to wow both local and international fans are are a logical choice to sign.

The band will unveil their new album in mid-2020 and, as with any other new signings, according to a press release, will “benefit from the full spectrum of Just Music’s successful artist and label services, whilst retaining an independent A&R and artist development profile.”

The band’s vocalist and guitarist Johni Holiday says, “Ruff Majik is excited to be the first band to sign on Mongrel Records! We’ll be working closely together with them throughout the coming months to bring you a brand-new album with exciting new sounds. More details to be announced soon!”

Local scene staple, Warren Gibson, is Mongrel Records’ Label Manager (but will also continue to run his independent Plug Music Agency) and stated of the news, “It’s been a longtime dream of mine to have a label that can give the heavier South African and African bands the help and attention they need and deserve. We’ve got some world class bands, and now with involvement and backing of Just Music I finally feel we have a platform to do this properly.”
