Most know of him as the energetic frontman of the multi-platinum group, Everclear, but musician Art Alexakis also recently ventured into uncharted territory with the release of his debut solo album, Sun Songs. Out in October 2019 via The End Records/BMG, Sun Songs sees Alexakis trying on totally new sounds, styles and subject matter proving he’s a more versatile songwriter than many might have presumed. He notes, “It wasn’t about making another Everclear record; it’s about doing something that’s just me.”

Well, keeping in line with the theme of new, Alexakis has now released a powerful, Denny Tedesco-directed music video for his single “The Hot Water Test.” The multiple sclerosis-inspired song details the very day that Alexakis was personally diagnosed with the disease. He comments, “I’m so grateful for all of the amazing people who have been living with MS that we brought together to take part in this video. With the current state of the world, it couldn’t be more timely to bring awareness to the MS community and everyone else living with underlying conditions that are even more susceptible to this virus.”

Elaborating further on the song title, Alexakis explains, “Doctors would diagnose MS by putting their patients into super-hot water and wait for them to start showing symptoms. It was pretty barbaric and miserable, and just one example of the kind of experiences that people with MS, autoimmune diseases, cancer, or for that matter any debilitating disease, have to deal with all the time.”
