North American audiences may not be familiar with Asher Knight but they soon will be; and we’re happy to help introduce you to the emerging artist with the exclusive premiere of his new video for “Step Back.” This is the title track to the London star’s debut EP, which you can order now through various formats here. With the talented Knight’s popularity rising in his native UK, Asher hit the United States earlier this month and began to acquaint himself with a new audience. Step Back consists of four stellar tracks, co-written with Mark Owen of Take That, with further assistance from George Tizzard and Rick Parkhouse, judges on the UK version of The Voice. Knight’s sound is unique, however, reminiscent of the 1980s British rock band The Alan Parson’s Project with some vibes similar to Blur’s Damon Albarn.
Being a young artist, Knight is chomping at the bit to get out there and have people hear him. The Step Back EP has already reached more than 350,000 streams on Spotify which is an encouraging sign that people are starting to take notice. Discussing the video for the “Step Back” single, Knight said, “I’m so excited to release the music video for my single ‘Step Back!’ The song is a reflection on all of the positive things that happen to us all, and the video shows the positivity I experienced behind the scenes on tour with The Vamps alongside some of the most important people in my life. I can’t wait to perform the song whilst I’m touring across the UK with Will Young this October.” You can view all of the dates for that tour below for the tour, which is being called ‘An Evening with Will Young.’
Listen to more of Asher Knight with “The Night Belongs To You” from the Step Back EP:
Knight is originally from Bradford, England, and has already accomplished more at 21 years old than many artists have who are ten years older. He has connected with listeners through his melodic and inspiring lyrics about love and hope. They are romantic, yet not to the point of being corny. Many of the words in the songs you hear on Step Back were inspired by Knight’s childhood experiences when he suffered through years of bullying. This has helped make his music relatable, particularly to young fans of school age.
In furthering the cause beyond just songs, Asher has teamed up with several anti-bullying charities across the UK, including Believe in Children Barnado’s, Bullying UK, NSPCC, Samaritans, and Kidscape. His ability to write such inspiring words is uncommon of any artist, regardless of age. With an EP out now, lots of touring ahead and a plan to hit North America soon, things are looking much brighter than ever before for Asher Knight.
The EP Step Back was released on July 5th, 2019. View the artwork:
