Hamilton, Ontario-based rock trio, Rat Parade—comprised of musicians Mitch Theriault (vox, bass), Ryan Theriault (guitar) and Luke Grohl (drums)—mash up garage and punk into their own raucous rock noise that’s too good to ignore. In fact, we previously featured the dudes back in October 2017 when we debuted their then-new four-song EP, Rat Parade. Highly active in the time since, the group dropped the single “Beer” in June 2018, the four-track EP Our Plague in October 2018, and the latest singles, “333am” and “Wasted Sun,” in January and June of 2019. Most recently the guys published the the “333am” music video which can be seen below.

Well, in the spirit of their hard work, DIY ethos, and continued progression since their inception in 2017, we’re stoked to today premiere Rat Parade’s brand new five-song EP, Cynical Cycles, which drops worldwide on the 16th of August and can now be pre-saved/ordered via Spotify and Bandcamp. (While you’re there, check out the above-mentioned past releases too!) The tunes take on the guys’ influences which range from ‘90s rock the likes of Nirvana, Weezer, and Green Day to Led Zeppelin and The Who resulting in a mix of grunge, punk, and classic rock.

New music always tastes so good. Hear Cynical Cycles today!

Speaking of the new album, the guys were kind enough to share the following thoughts and detials: “Cynical Cycles is all about human relationships as they relate to mental health, and how self destruction seems to happen cyclically. The album art was inspired by the poster for Hitchcock’s 1958 film ‘Vertigo.’ In the spirit of rock and roll, we wanted this album to capture how we sound at this point in time as honesty as possible.

We tracked live off the floor to 2″ tape, and kept the original guitar, bass and drum performances from the selected takes, just dubbing over additional guitar and vocals—committing to the imperfections in the live take rather than replacing them. The result is something that we can say is undeniably us, and is an album we’re more proud of than if it were quantized and pitch corrected. It’s an honest production of honest music.”

Upcoming Tour Dates:

August 16 – Oshawa, ON – The Atria
August 22 – Ottawa, ON – House of TARG
September 07 – Waterloo, ON – Harmony Lunch
September 25 – Burlington, ON – The Dickens
