Shiragirl is here, and no, we’re not talking about the character from the 1980s cartoon Masters of the Universe. No, Shiragirl is a bad-ass alternative artist ready to welcome you to the Andi Underground via her new music video “We Are The Underground.” Andi Underground was released on July 26th and you can purchase the new EP now via Apple Music, or stream it on Spotify.

The footage for the high-energy performance video was recorded at the very first edition of Gritty In Pink, a recent creative venture created by Shira to feature female artists of all genres in a new monthly event series. The series acts as a continuation of Shira’s now well-known Shiragirl Stage which served as an avenue at the annual summer Vans Warped tour for female-fronted musical acts to display their multi-dimensional talents. The stage was host to over 200 female-fronted bands, including Paramore and Joan Jett.

Checking in with a comment about her new music video, Shiragirl said, “We’re very excited to premiere this live video for ‘We Are The Underground,’ shot at The Satellite in L.A. This was an awesome night, both celebrating the release of our new EP Andi Underground, and teasing our upcoming event series Gritty in Pink, featuring female musicians. ‘We Are The Underground’ is one of my favorite songs on the new EP, featuring a badass guitar riff played by the one and only Tim Armstrong! When I first heard the riff, I pictured rocking out on stage with my fierce all-female band, just like we do in this video.”

Watch the music video for the Tim Armstrong-produced “Nothing To Lose,” shot at Bedrock Studios LA:

Well, there you heard it first, right from Shira! “We Are The Underground” features guest guitar from the legend, Tim Armstrong of punk pioneers Rancid! Armstrong was actually instrumental in the development of Andi Underground, acting as the co-creator and co-writer of the project and inspired by the celebrated tale of Alice In Wonderland. The EP is something of a concept record, painting a picture of a dark, futuristic world in which no one is able to leave their house without putting on mandatory, government-controlled “filter” glasses. Shira and Armstrong both brainstormed and concocted the concept and story and created this whole dystopian digital world that could pass for a blockbuster film concept.

With the recent release of Andi Underground, Shiragirl is proving to be one of the fiercest contributors to the female narrative in rock music today. She has been both courageous and admirable for how she has approached her contributions to modern music. Who else would have the guts to show up at Warped Tour in 2004 in a pink RV, create her own stage and perform on it with her band?

After the crowd response became stronger and more widespread, Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman invited Shira to create her own stage beginning for the 2005 edition of the tour. Shiragirl is undoubtedly one of the most empowering and inspirational leaders not just for young women, but for anyone looking to light that fire under them and pursue what they truly want in life and Andi Underground only serves to help assert why she is one of the true modern punk rock pioneers.

Shiragirl’s brand new EP, Andi Underground, was released July 26th:
