Mixing ambient sounds, edgy rock, and more, Bristol, UK’s My Octopus Mind is an experimental rock trio which, on July 10th, is set to issue their upcoming debut album Maladyne Cave. The band, which features musicians Liam O’Connell (guitar, vox), Isaac Ellis (double bass), and Oliver Cocup (drums), previously released the lead singles “Elska” and “Welder” on all major platforms and today we have the privilege of hosting a free download of the latter track.

With musical inspiration coming from the likes of Radiohead, Jeff Buckley, The Mars Volta, and Deerhoof, the eclectic yet purposeful songwriting seems to border on meandering just as everything perfectly syncs up. Maladyne Cave—which can be pre-ordered from the band or on Bandcamp here, was self-produced by O’Connell and Ellis with mixing and co-production from Ruben Lemer, and mastering at Air Studios by Cicely Balston.

As awesomely far out as the single itself, this is the video for “Welder”.

As for the album, according to the group it “explores the concept of human nature’s need to control and manipulate in the context of love, war, politics and religion. A dredging of the soul in all its battles with being human. The inevitable failure of our conquest over the planet and ultimately an undiluted analysis of the self, allowing the subconscious to speak.”

Lead vocalist, Liam, further expains, “Maladyne Cave is a labour of love, a time stamp from our lives and outlooks that holds great value to us. We are now happy to leave it in your hands as we scarper off into the future.”
