ALICE IN CHAINS and CITY AND COLOUR Hit the Jackpot with Flawless Performances at Orillia’s Casino Rama [Photos & Show Review]

For long-time Alice In Chains fans from the Toronto area, it could not get much better than getting to see this performance in Orillia. With a dream-come-true setlist loaded with classics, fans in attendance got to watch Jerry Cantrell, Sean Kinney, Mike Inez, and the incredible Mr. William DuVall work their way through two hours worth of some of the most beautiful material Alice In Chains have in their extensive catalogue of songs.

A few weeks before the show, it was announced that Dallas Green would be opening this short run of Canadian dates acoustic, performing a half-hour set of City and Colour material to warm up crowds. He eloquently stated that Alice In Chains was one of the first bands that opened him up to the emotion that could be brought to realization using vocals and a guitar, and described opening for Alice In Chains as a dream come true for him.

Hearing so much old stuff was amazing this evening. But the inclusion of tracks like “Check My Brain,” “Again,” “Never Fade,” “Hollow,” “Your Decision,” and “Rainier Fog,” effectively illustrated how relevant Alice In Chains remain as songwriters. The output from their last three albums holds up so incredibly well against their 1990s material, some of these tracks mean more to me than that much-loved classic grunge-era material. Dallas Green joined the band for an incredible rendition of “Got Me Wrong” during the encore and the women beside me teared up as he did so. This was a total treat, given that Dallas had performed “Nutshell” with the band in Hamilton, Ontario a few nights before.

An epic night in a beautiful venue. The sound and lighting were incredible for this show making this the best live show I’ve yet to witness from Alice In Chains.
