Winnipeg Noise Rockers TUNIC are Feeling Very “Blessed” by Their Scuzzy New Song [Exclusive Premiere]

You could say that the band Tunic started with a bit of a chip on its shoulder. And really, who could blame them? After touring around the world for years, playing someone else’s bass lines, David Schellenberg was suddenly told he was no longer “good enough.” So, he moved on. He bought a guitar, abandoned everything he knew about music and started from scratch.

Schellenberg embraced the world of discordant noise and began writing songs with childhood acquaintance Sam Neal (drums), with roommate Rory Ellis (bass) soon joining the fold. Over the last four years, and six DIY releases, Tunic has managed to develop their own unique brand of noise rock and hardcore. Practice always makes perfect and the same has been true for Tunic, as they have relentlessly toured Canada, Europe, and the United States.

Their debut album, Complexion, (which can be pre-ordered here via Self Sabotage Records), was recorded in only six days in Tunic’s hometown of Winnipeg, Manitoba with Montreal-based producer Jace Lasek (Suuns, Land of Talk, Wolf Parade). The album features eleven tunes of feedback-laden mastery laid over churning blows of drums and bass. Complexion is unconventional hardcore and broken indie art. I guess you could say, it’s somewhere in the ballpark but you’ll just have to find out for yourself…
