Yancey Ballard, John Pierce, and Daniel Eberlein. These are the names that compose synth-punk trio Shouldies, and our latest exclusive premiere for the band’s song “Bed”. The track is from their latest record 🙂 (which can be pre-ordered here), out March 8th. via NeverNotGoth, the new imprint from Graveface Records.

As lifelong friends, Pierce and Ballard collaborated on various projects prior to Shouldies, which they formed with Eberlein in summer of 2017 in Atlanta. Despite not knowing Eberlein very well, the three decided to unite to create accessible, relatable songs with meaningful lyrics which can get people dancing. Shouldies took the stage for the first time at Irrelevant Music Fest 2017 which set them in motion towards the creation of the new album 🙂.

With a comment on “Bed,” the band said, “‘Bed’ is an anxiety-induced love song. A dissociated chant of emotion. While writing the lyrics I was uncomfortably immersed in being overwhelmed by interaction. Watching from afar and creating lifetimes in thought instead of taking a step to initiate anything. Creating a conclusion of failure without acting anything out. All of these words backed by sharp and quick guitar and drums that ride along with the movements associated with the feelings: a flinch, an eye twitch, spasm. The anxiety dance.”
