Inglorious Rock Out with their Hardcore Fans at Manchester Academy 2 [Show Review]

Inglorious’ Ride to Nowhere tour is the band’s first outing with the new line-up featuring guitarists Danny Dela Cruz and Dan Stevens and Vinnie Colla on bass. We joined them at Manchester Academy 2 to around 400 fans, a welcome sight which would have allayed some concerns about Inglorious’ future success.

The gig opened with a journey through their back catalogue with “Where Are You Now?”, “Taking the Blame” and “High Flying Gypsy” from each of their latest three albums respectively getting an airing. Elsewhere, “Glory Days” was a highly emotional moment in the set, Nathan James even admitting he liked to get this song out of the way early in the night as it’s so difficult for him to sing. Met by a lukewarm reponse from the crowd, despite encouragement from Inglorious’ frontman Nathan, you couldn’t fault the band for effort with teenage sensation Dela Cruz, at only nineteen years old, wowing the crowd with his guitar prowess. Ending his display with a powerful riff, the guitarist flipped is guitar over to reveal the words “Never Underestimate Me” in tape on the back.

Inglorious Want to Know “Where Are You Now?”:

As the set progressed, the middle section felt like a very lukewarm attempt to put on a rock and roll show not helped by the low-key response from the audience. Energy levels did pick up during their cover of “Uninvited” by Alanis Morissette and they followed this with their latest single “Ride to Nowhere”. Finally, the pre-cursor to the encore was the dramatic “I Don’t Know You” during which guest vocalist Heather Leoni joined the band on stage for a finale which, while it left me feeling only somewhat satisfied, left plenty of fans leaving very happy indeed.
