Los Angeles three-piece heavy rock group, Worldwide Panic are inserting a little Canadiana into their sound, at least with their new song and video, a cover of Canadian pop rock artist Alanis Morrisette’s “You Oughta Know.” For the millennials checking this out, Alanis Morrisette became one of the most prominent musicians in the world in the mid-1990s thanks to her massive, breakthrough album, Jagged Little Pill, with this song acting as the lead single.

Worldwide Panic’s version was mixed and arranged by the legendary producer Mike Plotnikoff (Chris Cornell, The Cranberries, KISS, Fear Factory, Aerosmith) and mastered by Joshua Wickman (KING 810, Within the Ruins, Motograter).

You wouldn’t expect a heavy band to cover such a song, but you also wouldn’t have expected a lot of artists to cover a lot of songs that turned out to be on par with the original. Worldwide Panic lead singer Lane Steele recalled how the idea came about; “We were in the middle of recording a bunch of songs in the studio for about a month or so. Long days, so I like to take baths. Baths where for some reason I watch cheesy reality shows such as Real Housewives. I was in the bath watching this awful show that I have no clue why I like, and I started humming the intro melody to this song. I was like, “Huh, what song is that?” At that point, I realized it was Alanis Morissette’s “You Oughta Know.”

I found the karaoke version and started to sing it in my style and thought it sounded pretty interesting. So I called the studio like I own it and said, “I need to get in there tomorrow!” They wondered why, because our tracks were already done. I told them my idea and they replied, “That’s amazing, we will see you at 10 AM!” I stayed up, wrote the demo, went in, and the rest is history, as they say. So, enjoy our twisted, dark and heavy rendition of a ‘90s classic which is Worldwide Panic’s, “You Oughta Know”!”

The song will be prominently featured on the band’s U.S. tour which is set to kick off this week and run for over one month. They will act as support to the alternative metal heavyweights Mushroomhead as well as Hellzapoppin and Cleveland industrial metal band Ventana. Regarding the tour, the band briefly stated, “This is a dream tour for all of us in Worldwide Panic. All our fans are excited to see us and Mushroomhead pair up together!”
