Alternative rock (or somewhere along those lines) four-piece Ethyl Ether have unveiled their new video for “Cold Black Soul” and guess who’s got the premiere for you? We say “somewhere along those lines” because Ethyl Ether’s sound falls somewhere in between alternative and punk rock. Fortunately, you can make the decision for yourself when they release their third record, Chrome Neon Jesus, later this year. If you can’t decide then you can settle on “aggro-pop,” a genre, or sub-sub-genre, coined by the group themselves. (Watch the video, directed by Adam Donnelly and Denton Carstens from Zangtar Productions, above and check the tunes via iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, and/or Deezer.)

Formed just slightly more than two years ago in Cape Town, South Africa, the group has worked their asses off to already release two albums with thhe above-mentioned Chrome Neon Jesus to follow soon. The third instalment comes after The Pleasure Room and Museum of Human Error, in addition to a live EP titled Into Chaos.

Commenting on the inspiration behind the song and the video, the band said, “‘Cold Black Soul’ was inspired by the realities of failed relationships and the negative feelings associated with them. The video symbolizes the importance of friendship and coming together to get past tough times.”
