Denver-based punk/hardcore quartet, Hellgrammites are back with a new album entitled Feral, due out on January 11th, and we’ve got your exclusive premiere of the new tunes! The three-song EP, which can be purchased via Bandcamp here, follows their Speakeasy EP and music video for the single “It Comes With The Territory” (which can be viewed below).

Previously known for their wild rock group and penchant for dark, costumed live performances, the guys regroup in 2018 and emerged with a more sophisticated and punk/hardcore-drenched sound that’s both unique and perfectly heavy. Elaborating on the change, guitarist Lehi Petersen, noted:

“We are an all family band, and have been playing together for over 15 years. We created Hellgrammites as a formal group in 2015 and have been searching for our sound and identity. This last year we made a lot of changes to our music and our live approach, and we have been working really hard on this new material. We have been taking a lot of jazz and blues concepts, theories, and progressions and then applying them to a specific, heavier genre. I really think this approach has made our sound unique and more than just cookie cutter rock and roll.”

If you happen to find yourself in the Denver area come January 11th, then we strongly encourage you to visit the Marquis Theater and check the guys performing the new tunes live. Other acts that night include Giardia, It’s Just Bugs, and False Report. Expanding on the new album, vocalist Erik Petersen adds:

“The song titles on the ‘Feral’ EP are related to elements of the earth, and each track’s lyrics are meant to evoke a specific emotion through a descriptive narrative. Having the previously mentioned approach of writing heavy music with jazz theory and other unorthodox methods not traditionally used in heavier genres helps us to create a more diverse and dynamic emotional landscape of music.”
