Oh, Weatherly – “Lips Like Oxygen” [Album Review]
Just when you thought Fridays couldn’t get any better, Oh, Weatherly and Hopeless Records team up to ensure July 27th is the best day it could possibly be… check out Lips Like Oxygen, the Dallas quintet’s debut full-length.
Hailing from Dallas, Texas, the alt-rock band Oh, Weatherly have partnered up with Hopeless Records to release their first full-length, Lips Like Oxygen. Out today, Friday, July 27th, fans have been patiently waiting after getting a sweet taste of what’s to come with the singles “Here Tonight” and “I Think I Want You”.
Oh, Weatherly is comprised of five dudes: guitarists Angel Bedoy and Reece Alan, drummer Colton Lakey, bassist Beau Harris and, of course, Blake Roses. The group started to surface in February 2015 when the lead vocalist, Roses, decided to pursue his love for music. Roses and two former band members released their first EP, Long Nights and Heavy Hearts, in July of 2015. Since then, they have blessed our ears with one other EP, Make You Bright, which came out October of last year.
Listening to “Lips Like Oxygen” really reminds me of Mayday Parade. Fans of both bands might find it intriguing to know that Jake Bundrick, who plays drums for Mayday Parade, helped produce this album with Oh, Weatherly. But the bands that really inspired Roses and his bandmates are Boys Like Girls, The Dangerous Summer, and Pierce the Veil – all killer bands! Oh, Weatherly is well-known for playing the field and trying different techniques when it comes to the pop-rock feel, and all of their songs – on this release, and on earlier ones – always have something different about them.
Sample the lead single from the record, ”Here Tonight”.
While crafting the album, Roses was going through a hard time relationship-wise (like we all have), and the result is a record with super relatable lyrics that combines with excellent musicianship. Consisting of 10 songs, Lips Like Oxygen is all you can ask for and more; it’s every alt-rock lover’s dream come true.
