Tattoo Talk: FERENTZ AND THE FELONS Discuss Impactful Ink and Unveil “Note to Self” Single

Time for some more tattoo talk! This time around, we connected via email with Zak Ferentz, front man for the Hudson County, NJ-based quartet, Ferentz and The Felons. Currently gearing up for the July 13th release of their debut album Hudson County, the alt/folk rockers desire to leverage their musical message to encourage people to stay true to themselves. With the recent passing of Zak’s mother, the artist was kind to still make time for us and discuss ink while focusing on wearing the mark of people who have greatly impacted his life and musical output.

With the Hudson County EP, according to the band, “Ferentz and The Felons aims to be a voice for all of the underdogs and outcasts in this world, giving back to those in need.” Also preceded by the music video for the title track “Hudson County”, which you can view below, today we’re stoked to debut the new song “Note to Self” which further highlights personal topics such as drug addiction.

When, where and what was your first tattoo?
Zak Ferentz: My first tattoo was the Slayer Eagle on my forearm.

Do any of your tattoos have a particularly special meaning behind them? If so, do share man!
Ferentz: I have my mother’s name tattooed on the side of my neck. My mother recently passed away and it was the least I could do to have her with me forever. Also, I have a Tom Petty portrait on my leg, that was my mother’s favorite artist, as well as mine. Tom knew how to write a jam, he was the best.

Do you have a specific shop or artist that you frequent (insert shameless plug time!)?
Ferentz: Pierre at Jersey City Tattoo, Sheila Marcello from Electric Tattoo in Asbury Park, Gus Duarte from Harrison, NJ, and Ben McQueen from Indiana.

Do you have any new tattoos planned or underway? Give us the dirt, dude!
Ferentz: Gonna do a few more portraits on my favorite musicians, here’s a hint on my next one “Hey Hey, My My”.

Have any tattoos that were painful. Like made you cry, see white light, and regret being born?
Ferentz: I have a devil tattooed on my stomach, it was THE WORST PAIN! Worse than the throat.

If you HAD to get someone’s face tattooed on you, whose would it be and why?
Ferentz: I have two faces and I plan on getting more, Tom Petty and Eric Clapton are both on me for life, and trust me there will be a lot more.
