Famous for its football teams and a certain pop group, the last eighteen months has seen Liverpool put itself on the MMA map thanks to fighters like Chris Fishgold and Paddy “The Baddy” Pimblett. This past weekend, the city cemented its place as one of the new hotbed’s of UKMMA talent when Molly “Meatball” Mccann and main card headliner Darren Till represented the city when MMA heavyweights UFC put on their latest fight show at the city’s Echo Arena.

This weekend it’s the turn of the newcomers as a stacked card of amateur and professional fighters appear on the latest Cage Warriors Academy fight night. Ahead of the event, we had a quick chat to Paul Reed to find out who could be among the next generation of fighters to join the growing list of top Liverpool fighters.

“Amateur Fighters to look out for – Marcus Lewis (Titanium Gym) World Champion traditional martial artist and kick-boxer and fighting in a title eliminator.

Connor Hughes out of MMA Academy another traditional martial artist and kickboxing World Champion.

Our BW champ Nathan Fletcher who is a Next Generation hot prospect and is expected to go Professional within the next year.

Aspire Gym’s Marlon Jones who fights for the 1st ever Junior title (u18’s) is considered to be the future of Liverpool MMA. Without a doubt a superstar in the making.

Finally Molly Mccann’s training partner Francis Breen is definitely another young flyweight with potential superstar ability.

As for pro fighters – Liam Gittins, formally ranked as UK #1 flyweight amateur, has his second professional fight after looking impressive in the first and is expected to hit the UK Top 5 ranked fighters this year. Liam looks to have everything to be able to go all the way.. everyone’s favourite fighter.”
