Hangout Music Festival is returning the to Gulf Shores, AL for its 9th year on the Gulf Coast. This years lineup packs a punch, with headliners The Killers, The Chainsmokers, and Kendrick Lamar showing off this year’s diverse lineup, spanning across multiple genres to please all festival fans.
Featuring the likes of Portugal. the Man, Cold War Kids, St. Vincent, Foster the People, Grouplove, Bleachers and more, festival organizers went heavy on the indie-rock artists when compared to previous years. However, they did skimp out on the rest of the lineup. The Chainsmokers are joined by some of the biggest names in EDM; Zedd and Odesza. Lamar is backed by other hip-hop big names Blackbear, Logic, and Anderson Paak & the Free Nationals.
The lineup alludes to the possibility of multiple collaborations on stage as well. Halsey, who has become one of the world’s biggest pop stars with the release of her sophomore album Hopeless Fountain Kingdom is scheduled to preform on the same day as The Chainsmokers. Their song “Closer” arguably launched Halsey into the spotlight, so it will be interesting to see if they choose to come together for a performance of one of the most played songs in recent years.
Up and coming R&B princess SZA, who has found much success with her recent release CTRL, is scheduled on the same day as label mate Kendrick Lamar. The two friends recorded “Doves in the Wind”, featured on CTRL, together. It will also be interesting to see if SZA joins Kendrick during his set. “Loyalty” from his 2017 release DAMN. Features sultry vocals from Rihanna, but could easily be replaced with SZA’s raw and powerful voice. Lamar performed the track on “The DAMN. Tour” this past fall, so it is definitely a possibility.
The three-day festival is unlike any other music experience. It is as much of a laid-back vacation as it is a renowned music event. From getting your tan on in one of the beach access points (or VIP side stage pool), getting a smooch at the puppy kissing booth, relaxing at the Hammock Beach, getting in a game of beach volleyball, or enjoying some of the best food from local vendors, there is never a dull moment at Hangout. Plus all activities are accompanied by constant live music. The festival offers general admission, VIP, and Super VIP passes for those looking to splurge on their summer vacations.
