The Story So Far (w/ Turnstile, Drug Church) @ Skully’s Music-Diner (Columbus, OH) on December 1, 2017 [Photos & Show Review]

Nearing the very end of their fall US tour, The Story So Far made a stop in Columbus, Ohio to perform at Skully’s Music-Diner. With a string of sold-out shows along the way, it is no surprise that Skully’s made the last ticket sales just weeks before. Drug Church and Turnstile were direct support of this month-long trek.

With Drug Church kicking off the show, the audience was met with their grungy alternative style and animated vocalist giving his all into the mic. Using the stage as a platform, vocalist Patrick Kindlon encouraged the fans to move around and stage dive during the chaotic rhythms.

On next, fans were met with the clashing sounds of punk and hardcore from Baltimore natives, Turnstile. By this time the venue had filled to capacity to make the show even more intense. Concertgoers began making their way to the stage as Turnstile kicked off their set with “Gravity”, leaving the stage with an ongoing flood of stage divers. Playing favorites such as “Blue By You”, “Real Thing”, and “Drop”; fans exerted every ounce of energy just to be able to scream into the mic, as vocalist Brendan Yates gave a lively deliverance.

The moment had finally come — California-based pop-punk sensations The Story So Far were up next and there were big shoes to fill. Opening with “Things I Can’t Change”, and continuing with delights across their repertoire such as “Out Of It”, “Nerve”, and “Roam”. One unexpected song was homage to one of the greatest rock bands of all time, “Black Dog” as drummer Ryan Torf wears his Led Zeppelin shirt. A relentless stream of stage divers soared onto the crowd the entire set and all I could think about is how many smiles I counted more than anything. TSSF Finished off strong by encoring with “Highest Regard”.
