The internet went into meltdown a few months ago when tickets went on sale for Liam Gallagher’s headline tour with the tour selling out in record time such was the demand for tickets to see the former Oasis frontman take his solo album As You Were out on the road. Inside the First Direct Arena where Gallagher is kicking off this UK headline run, the atmosphere is more like that of a football match than a gig as a lone smoke cannister fills the air with blue smoke while the crowd are singing along to every track booming out of the PA ahead of the return of the frontman to Leeds.

At just after nine, Gallagher strides out smirking at the bedlam in front of him and spends the next ninety-odd minutes putting on the kind of night that not one person in the arena will forget for a long time. As the crowd sing along to every word, the Mancunian legend performs iconic tracks like “(What’s the Story) Morning Glory)” along with tracks from his own solo album. For sure, there isn’t a person in here tonight who wouldn’t give their right arm to see both Gallagher brothers back performing together. Sadly, for whatever reason, that’s clearly just wishful thinking but, you know what, seeing Gallagher perform a stunning rendition of “Wonderwall”, for those ninety minutes, this more than makes up for it.

I have an unhealthy obsession with bad horror movies, the song Wanted Dead Or Alive and crap British game shows. I do this not because of the sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll lifestyle it affords me but more because it gives me an excuse to listen to bands that sound like hippos mating.
