Scranton, PA punks The Menzingers kicked off their fall headlining tour in Portland, Maine last week at Port City Music Hall, bringing their friends in The Movielife along for the occasion as they played before some two-three hundred fans in attendance.

After a performance from opener, MakeWar, Long Island, NY’s The Movielife took to the stage. If you were a passerby on the street looking into the venue, you could’ve easily assumed that these guys were headlining, just from the amount of energy in their set. Part of the wave of the “emo revival” The Movielife came back from a hiatus–back in Portland, ME on this night for the first time in 15 years. While there were some in attendance who’d seen them all those years ago, many in the audience were too young to remember them, but by the end of the set seemed to have been won over. The band put on a hell of a performance during their 45-minute set that was chock-full of fan-favorites including “Jamestown” and “Face or Kneecaps” alongside newer tracks like “Ghosts in the Photographs,” taken from their upcoming release Cities In Search of a Heart which comes out this Friday (September 22) on Rise Records.

The Menzingers were up next, and did not disappoint with a fantastic set that had fans jumping and crowd surfing along to the music. Highlights of their performance included tracks “I Don’t Wanna Be An Asshole Anymore,” “Bad Catholics,” “Good Things,” and “After the Party.” These guys are always a good time to see live and seem to get better each time I see them. Part of that may have been the intimate venue setting for the show, which definitely added to the experience. The Menzingers continue their tour in support of their latest album After The Party through mid October. Check the dates below to catch them in a city near you!
