We previously debuted the new “Wasteland” music video from the independent Portland, Maine progressive rock band Five of the Eyes and as of today we’re also offering a free MP3 download! The video, which can be seen below, was created by Herman Mantis and filmed on location at the same studio where the album was recorded. The song, taken from the debut nine-song LP, The Venus Transit, can be pre-ordered via Bandcamp and is slated for a September 29th release.

We managed to link up with vocalist Darrell Foster for an exclusive quote about the song’s meaning. “‘Wasteland’ is about the current political and environmental struggle that we face today. It’s about regression into turbulent civil issues that were never decimated, but just hiding away like cockroaches in the dark corners of our American society. The lyrics were written during the anti-immigration ban protests that took place across the world, including our hometown of Portland, ME at the International Airport. It’s such a trying time to be faced with these human rights violations that are hugely important, and at the same time be bombarded with the knowledge that we are on the brink of human extinction through dangerous environmental changes. ‘Who escapes the ashen road, in a dustbowl?’ Who can speak with their mouth full of dirt?’ At the same time, the song is sort of an escape from all of that. It’s a way to channel that tension, that rage, and rock the f*ck out.”
