Toronto’s Bovine Sex Club offered up a cocktail of noise on August 5th when it hosted ZAUM, Flying Fortress, White Lake Snakes, and Mother’s Green for a night of metal, rock, punk and hardcore.

Toronto punk band White Lake Snakes along with stoner rockers Mother’s Green kicked things off to a crowd of fans that really had to work hard to get to the venue as it was the city’s annual Caribana festival meaning Lakeshore was closed and all traffic diverted to Queen Street… Guess where the Bovine is located? If you guessed Queen Street you are right. Luckily, last call wasn’t until 4 am so everyone had lots of time to make up for being stuck in traffic.

Pembroke, Ontario’s metallers Flying Fortress were next on stage and they certainly are a noisy bunch. Consisting of the bassist from Zaum on drums and a bassist who plays the bass as if it was a lead guitar, their set was solid, fast and, as is to be expected, heavy!

The headliners, New Brunswick’s Zaum, hit the stage at 1:30 in the morning. The consists of bassist/vocalist Kyle Alexander McDonald and drummer Christopher Lewis. Lights out, a couple of candles burning off to the side, and the show began! I honestly don’t know how to describe this duo. Spacey synthesizer mixed with odd vocals that reminded me of Mongolian throat singing… it was different, but dope.

Unfortunately there was not enough light to get any photographs so you’ll just have to check them out for yourself, if you’d like to hear or see more of them.
