Ottawa’s New Swears are set to release their first LP on Dine Alone Records, And the Magic of Horses, on June 23rd and have dropped new track “Halos in Hell.” The song reflects on the strange inertia of an endless party and really shows the musical talents of the band members, with harmonized guitar leads, three-part backing vocals, tape manipulation and even a brief appearance from a glockenspiel.
The recording sessions for the new album were overseen by Paul “Yogi” Granger, notorious in the Ottawa punk scene and owner owner of pinball/pierogi bar House of TARG. Granger has produced beloved albums by The White Wires, Steve Adamyk Band, and First Base. With Granger’s help, New Swears came up with their sharpest songs yet and also helping the band get more serious and mature with their lyrics, covering topics such as friendship, death, the afterlife, and what they hope to leave behind.
