L.A. power trio The Record Company started the evening off at the sold-out Air Canada Centre on April 3rd. The band makes use of a vintage style microphone, slide guitar, and harmonica with a killer resulting sound. At one point, Chris Vos, the band’s frontman, took a moment to mention that the last time they played in Toronto was at Lee’s Palace to roughly six people. Look at this crowd tonight!

Following the aforementioned opener’s crowd-warming set, American singer/songwriter John Mayer begun the evening’s main event. His “The Search For Everything Tour” is split into 3 section: the full band, and acoustic portion, and The John Mayer Trio with bassist Pino Palladino and drummer Steve Jordan.

The night’s program consisted of a taste of Mayer’s musical career with a giant screen lit differently for each section. During the third song, which is generally the final song for photographers, Mayer even took a moment to mention to the crowd that he wanted the pictures in the morning newspapers to make the show look really cool! John then even took the time to “ham” it up a bit for the “photogs”. Which I thought was really cool of him. A little later in the evening, to the fans’ delight, Mayer brought surprise guest Shawn Mendes out on stage to join him.
