A week ahead of their winter headliner, Phoenix, AZ’s The Word Alive is excited to give fans a brand new song called “Overdose” to coincide with the tour. Lead singer Telle Smith describes the track as “an extension of Dark Matter,” the band’s latest studio album which was one of Alternative Press’ Most Anticipated Albums of 2016 and peaked at No. 1 on the iTunes Metal and Rock Charts.
“Our fans have seemed to really connect with our newer material in a deeper way,” Smith explains. “We feel that’s because of not just honing in on a sound that we feel is our own, but making sure that we’re continuing to raise awareness and be a positive impact to our listeners — even if the story being told needs to be a bleak one. ‘Overdose’ was spawned when we looked around in the world and felt all we saw was darkness. We have seen friends specifically implode due to drug abuse. It may seem glamorized through movies and TV, but the reality is our vices can be the death of us and crush those around us. ‘Overdose’ tells the first person story of someone lusting after a high that they will never maintain, while simultaneously destroying themselves and the life they loved. We are planning on donating a portion of proceeds from this song to help those in the music industry struggling with addiction, and will be using our platform and The Overdose Tour to raise awareness to our fans of the consequences of ignoring the mistakes of others. We hope you enjoy our newest track. We’ll be playing it nightly on our headlining tour this winter.”
