Upon A Burning Body – “Straight From The Barrio” [Album Review]
With The World Is My Enemy Now, Upon A Burning Body have produced their most consistent album to date.
Let’s face it, the marketing campaign for Upon A Burning Body’s third album, The World Is My Enemy Now, was one of the worst ideas ever to be conceived. Who ever thought pretending that vocalist Danny Leal had gone missing was a good idea probably needs to change careers.
Despite that though, the album itself has some solid moments on it so, with the band back with release number four, Straight From The Barrio, let’s see if they can produced a recording with more than just a few good moments. Well, to be fair, they have issued their most consistent album to date. There are fewer peaks and troughs though, and perhaps the downside of this is that none of the tracks really stand out quite as much. That’s not to say there aren’t some great songs as “Almost Broken” and “Fake Plastic Smile” demonstrate.
To me, Upon A Burning Body are deathcore’s version of Limp Bizkit; It’s not big, it’s not clever and at times it’s utterly stupid, but by the same token it’s also very cool. Traditionalists will hate it, but for those that don’t take things quite as seriously and just want to bang their heads and have a good time, then Upon A Burning Body and Straight From The Barrio is definitely the album for you.
