Joe Giron and Rex Brown – “A Vulgar Display of Pantera” [Book Review]
A Vulgar Display Of Pantera, the new photo book from photographer Joe Giron, is a Pantera fan’s wet dream.
A Vulgar Display Of Pantera, the new photo book from photographer Joe Giron, is a Pantera fan’s wet dream. This extremely well-crafted hard cover coffee table book contains nearly 400 pages of pictures, info, and anecdotes spanning this legendary band’s career.
When I think of Pantera I automatically think of the group in their heyday, down-tuned, heavy, and with Phil Anselmo at the helm. (I had forgotten that they originally started out in the mid-eighties as a sort of hair band complete with spandex pants, leg warmers, really big hair and a totally different vocalist.)
Painstakingly great care was taken when compiling this book that chronicles, through glossy, hi-res pictures, the rise of arguably one of the most important heavy metal bands in all of history. As a huge fan of Dimebag I found it especially poignant flipping through the images of the sorely-missed guitar god.
A forward by band bassist Rex Brown and some anecdotes from drummer Vinnie Paul rounds things out, summing up the book and tying things together perfectly. This is a fantastic release and a must-have for fans of Pantera; your collection is NOT complete until this is sitting on your coffee table for all to see.
For those in the area, both Joe Giron and Rex Brown are doing a book signing in Dallas on October 28th.
