Extreme metal veterans, The Agonist, have kicked up their game to notches unknown to mankind with their upcoming album, Five, which is set to be released on September 30, 2016 via Napalm Records. European and North American tours have already begun scheduling and trust me, this band is ready to melt your face off!
Five is typical genre-jumping The Agonist at it’s best, with a few surprises. There is something in here for every metal fan. Opening tunes like “The Moment” and “The Chain” quickly get your heart rate into high gear and there’s no letting down, so you might want to hit the gym before listening to this one! Better yet, take this to the gym and watch those muscles just start popping out due to the adrenaline rush that you will surely experience!
The extremely talented and beautiful front-woman, Vicky Psarakis shows off her mad vocal skills with the acoustic, “The Raven Eyes”. The powerful, yet slightly raspy voice – a cross between Stevie Nicks and Lzzy Hale – will surely leave a powerful impression to fans old and new.
A huge surprise on the album is a cover of “Take Me To Church”. They took this song and made it all their own. Vicky explains how this came about:
“Napalm asked us to try and do a cover for this album. We were trying to find a song that would be relevant to play on the radio right now. A song that people outside the metal genre would know. It was hard because most pop songs don’t lyrically fit our genre and what we’re trying to say. We found ‘Take Me To Church’ and it was a very interesting song, both musically and lyrically. We decided to just go for it!”

This will be Psarakis’ sophomore tour, so to speak. Her first go ‘round came with raving reviews as The Agonist fans came out to see who this new singer was. Surely, word has gotten around the rock world of this incredible talent and the chemistry she has built with the rest of the band members. As the newness has worn off with experience, this tour will be better than ever. Vicky explains:
“I’m definitely more comfortable now being in the band. Doing shows, I’m not nervous anymore. I’m used to the touring lifestyle and when it’s time to go on stage and play a set I’m not nervous or worried. It’s all positive feelings and the tours that we have upcoming are great, great shows with Xandria, Epica and Fleshgod Apocalypse. I’m certain that they’re gonna be killer shows and I’m looking forward to it!”
We are too!
Be sure to pick up your copy of Five at your favorite retailer on September 30th. With 14 tracks, it’s a great value. Check out The Agonist’s webpage for tour dates and cities near you. You do not want to miss this show, trust me!
