3TEETH: The Single Best Thing to Happen to Industrial Music in the Past Decade
OK, I’ll just come out and say it, 3Teeth has ALL the makings to be THE FUTURE of Industrial.
I don’t write. I mean, I do, I just don’t have time for it. You see, running this site is nothing short of a full-time gig. When I’m not actually living life, I’m doing my best to help promote artists and their music. That being said, once in a blue moon I’m absolutely compelled to put the proverbial pen to paper and offer my two cents on something I feel is not just good, but utterly next level and urgently warranting your time.
Enter 3Teeth (also written as 3TƎETH), a Los Angeles, CA-based Industrial group who, though their debut self-titled offering dropped in 2014, I only recently discovered. I grew up on tons of varying music, genres, bands, etc. but Industrial somehow was always a mainstay. From more “mainstream” acts (Nine Inch Nails, Rammstein, Marilyn Manson, Filter, White Zombie) to the innovators (KMFDM, Ministry, Die Krupps, Godflesh, Fear Factory) and the heaping pile of sick, not-quite-as-dominant-but-equally-epic bands (Clawfinger, H-Blockxx, Dope, Static-X, Mushroomhead, the list goes on… I know I’m missing many), I listened to A LOT of this music.
OK, I’ll just come out and say it, 3Teeth has ALL the makings to be THE FUTURE of Industrial.
Boasting everything a true Industrial fanatic could want, there’s no reason why 3Teeth can’t take their sounds to the absolute apex of heavy music. Slow, trippy, dark and ominous atmospheres are perfectly melded with rock-hard beats, sickening screams, and crunchy guitars which results in beast mode-inducing tunes that will leave the blood simply screaming through your veins.
Don’t trust me? Don’t give a fuck what I have to say? Well, first check out the two songs herein included (“Degrade” and “Atrophy”) and second, please note that TOOL handpicked 3Teeth to support them on their 2016 North American tour. Yep, TOOL. That’s a lot of cred! As far as I’m concerned, the future is CRAZY-dark (yes, by dark I mean bright) for this group. I’ll also note that the two aforementioned tracks are set to appear on the band’s sophomore release, shutdown.exe, due out next February on OMF Records.
Vocalist Alexis Mincolla recently shared with Rolling Stone, “‘Atrophy’ is about living in a culture of perpetual distractions and fighting back against the underuse of our own minds that occurs as a result of it.”
So, use your brain and imagine yourself at a 3Teeth gig with the band ripping through song after song of Quake/Doom-worthy soundtrack music when all of a sudden they drop into the chorus on “Degrade” and somehow the ceiling opens up, drenching the crowd in a sea of crimson-coloured blood effectively recreating the classic “Blood Rave” scene in the original Blade movie. Fucking unreal!!!
