Album Review
Silent Planet – “Everything Was Sound” [Album Review]
I really like this record; I think it is quite refreshing to hear a band doing something fresh and creative within the confines of the at times stagnant metalcore scene.
This summer, I became acquainted with – and an instant fan of – Silent Planet, when I was able to catch them live on the Vans Warped Tour. The chaotic, at times spastic, vocal delivery of vocalist Garrett Russell layered atop of some really good metalcore is as good as it is different.
I feel the music really mirrors what is going on in the lyrical content where Russell’s emotionally-charged vocals, fueled by rage, take on such topics as PTSD, Schizophrenia, and various other forms of mental illness.
Everything Was Sound is not all chaotic, though, as there are lots of intricate melodies and hooks rounding out the madness; perhaps this can be akin to beauty in the midst of chaos. I really like this record; I think it is quite refreshing to hear a band doing something fresh and creative within the confines of the at times stagnant metalcore scene.
