Having seen the boys of Hedley perform multiple times, I know what to expect when I go into one of their shows, and they never fail to excite the droves of fans that flock to see them. Promoting their new album, Hello, they kept the crowd on their feet and dancing. Opening the show were Francesco Yates and Carly Rae Jepsen, and they definitely set the tone for what was definitely an amazing, high-energy show.
There was no shortage of excitement, from Hedley’s hit single “Never Too Late”, mixed with Justin Bieber’s “Sorry”, Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk”, and Major Lazer’s “Lean On”, to frontman Jacob Hoggard taking a fan’s phone and calling her ex-boyfriend live on stage for the whole stadium to hear. Even when he brought the energy level down for a brief stint at the piano, performing “For The Nights I Can’t Remember” and “Perfect”, the entire crowd was singing loud and proud, especially after being told they ‘sounded like Ottawa’ when they weren’t singing as loud as he’d liked.
The show was coated in old classics like “Gunnin”, “On My Own”, and “Don’t Talk to Strangers”, as well as songs from the new album including the title track “Hello”, “Lose Control”, and “Lost in Translation”. I absolutely love going to see Hedley any time they’re in Toronto, and I seriously recommend you do, too. This is a band that knows how to keep the crowd loud, energetic, and ready to take on anything.
The next stop on their cross-country tour lands them in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on May 5, 2016. But rest assured Toronto, they will be back.
