Hiraeth – “The World Ends With You” [EP Review]

Their PGA exclusive gave us a taster of what was to come but this EP from UK metallers HIraeth confirms big things are to come from these boys

There was a hefty amount of interest when we ran the world exclusive of Hiraeth’s “Words To Echo” video back in August so it’s nice to see that the four-track EP it came from lives up to the high expectations set by the taster track. A brief taste into what these hardcore miscreants are capable of, The World Ends With You has as much in common with metallic side of a band like Bring Me The Horizon as it does with the punk/hardcore side of a band like Gallows.

The World Ends With You may only be four tracks long but the four tracks are more than enough to set tongues wagging in a UK hardcore scene which is already brimming with quality bands. “Barely Breathing”, for example, is a wall-shaking cocktail of brutal metal riffs and hardcore vocals whereas “Beside Me” is a whirlwind of pit-destroying metallic hardcore. Grabbing you by the throat, Hiraeth are a band who deliver a crushingly heavy sound which will sit as comfortably with the metallic hardcore pit-scrappers as it does with those who like the emotion and passion of the hardcore scene.

If their PGA video exclusive didn’t hint at big things for this band, once you hear the rest of this EP, you’ll be in no doubt that Hiraeth are on the verge of causing some serious damage in the UK hardcore scene.

I have an unhealthy obsession with bad horror movies, the song Wanted Dead Or Alive and crap British game shows. I do this not because of the sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll lifestyle it affords me but more because it gives me an excuse to listen to bands that sound like hippos mating.
