Krisiun – “Forged In Fury” [Album Review]

Krisiun’s Century Media release, Forged In Fury, is so punishing that it is akin to stepping into the ring with a seasoned black belt and getting beat to a bloody pulp.

I was late to the party when it came to Krisiun, having only discovered them on their last record, 2011’s The Great Execution. That said, it did not take more than two songs and I was a fan and, to this day, feel that “Blood Of Lions” is one of the best extreme metal tunes of all time. Fast forward a few years and the band’s newest release, Forged In Fury, came across my desk; I could not wait to give this bad boy a listen.

“Scars Of Hatred” kicks things off with a sheer force and brutality that will absolutely melt your face and is guaranteed to make you take notice. The remaining fifty or so minutes are so punishing that it is akin to stepping into the ring with a seasoned black belt and getting beat to a bloody pulp. It is balls-out top to bottom with no breakdowns and no bullshit, just razor-sharp riffs, thundering drums, and growling, pissed-off vocals.

The very last track, “Milonga de la Muerte,” is the only exception to the madness and this acoustic instrumental provides the only melody you will hear on this record. It also marks the perfect moment when to pull your spent, pulverized body out of the proverbial ring and assess the damage. This is a fantastic tour de force that is not for the faint of heart. If extreme metal is your thing, however, then Forged In Fury is going to be your jam.
